North Fraser Therapeutic Riding Association - Annual Horse Show

VTEA entered four of their riders and two of their horses in the NFTRA Annual Horse Show in Maple Ridge on Sat, Jun 19th. Riders were entered in pole bending classes, dressage tests and an obstacle course class. All four of our riders placed in their classes and received ribbons. Congratulations to Robyn Styles, Mark Lyon, Kayley Olund and Thomas Rak. Our horses "Slick" and "Blue" were absolute stars at the show. Thank you to Julie Matijiw, Paula Farr and Kim Yawney for accompanying our riders and horses for the day.

Also a big thank you to NFTRA for inviting us to be a part of their show this year. Looking forward to attending again next year and also inviting the NFTRA riders to our Valley Annual Horse Show next summer.

Annual VTEA Horse Show

Our Annual Horse Show was held on Sat, Jun 26th. We had approximately 45 riders participate this year. Thank you to all of our volunteers that made it such a wonderful (and safe!) day for our riders to participate in their classes and congratulations to all of our riders.

Also we now have the Volunteer Attendance Record Book on the table in the parents viewing area - please remember to sign in and out on your volunteer day.

Please join me in welcoming Kitty, as our new Lesson Co-ordinator for the Summer Session. We will be appointing a Lesson Co-ordinator for each day of the week for our Fall Session. If you are interested in this volunteer position, please contact Paula Farr. Basically the LC's work with the Volunteer Co-ordinator, the Instructor for the day and the Barn Staff to ensure that our lessons run smoothly and also assist in assigning duties to our volunteers for the day.

All volunteers require a Criminal Record Check for our Summer Session. This is free of charge to volunteers. Forms are available at the office. Please return your forms to the Office or mail to VTEA Board Secretary c/o VTEA Box 1324, Aldergrove, B.C., V4W 2V1

Horse Update

Many of you may remember Bailey! Bailey was one of our lesson horses at VTEA for many years. She was retired from the program last summer and now lives on a farm in Red Deer, Alberta with Chad and Renee McDonald. We are so pleased that Bailey has such a wonderful new home. We received the photo and update below and wanted to share them with everyone that remembers Bailey at VTEA. A big thank you to Chad and Renee for providing such a wonderful home for our "Bailey Girl"!

" Rainbows love Bailey" photo by Chad McDonald

Bailey has truly been an answer to prayer for us. We were looking for a 15 hands, older, calm, easy keeper and Bailey really fit the bill!

Bailey Bum as we affectionately call her (yes Julie, your name stuck :-) has survived our cold Alberta winter very well. I must say she didn't really like the really extremely cold days but she rode it out well. We are planning on opening up the barn this winter to make it even easier on the really cold days.

She has some nice views of the valley we live in, enjoys the prairie storm clouds and flirts with every male horse we have! She is my first horse and there is nothing I could ask for more than Bailey, we just love her, she is such a sweet girl! - Chad and Renee McDonald

Volunteer Appreciation BBQ

Our BBQ was held on Sunday, Jul 11th at the barn. A huge thank you to all of our staff, directors, parents and riders that came out to acklowledge our amazingly dedicated volunteers!

We currently have approximately 50 volunteers that assist at VTEA every week. Without this amazing group of dedicated people we would not be able to run our program. They dedicate their time and their talents - rain or shine each week to enable our riders to enjoy fun but safe lessons.

Thank you to Barry Welford, our new VTEA General Manager for making up all of the certificates for our volunteers.

Volunteers - if you were not able to attend the BBQ - please pick up your certificate from the parents viewing area this week during lessons - thank you!

Beautiful weather, great food, lots of fun and amazing volunteers!!!

Riding Attire for Lessons

Just a reminder that proper riding attire is strongly recommended for all riders at VTEA. This includes riding boots or rubber boots with a 1" heel, riding pants or stretchy fitted pants. Gloves are also recommended (no mittens) - riding gloves are available at local tack stores for approximately $5. Although VTEA does provide helmets, if you are riding on a regular basis it is recommended that you purchase your own helmet - these are available at local tack stores for around $65 and up. If you have any questions regarding correct riding attire, please discuss them with your Instructor and they will be happy to advise.

Pennies for Ponies Fund

Our Pennies for Ponies Fund was set up a couple of years ago and is a wonderful way to donate to VTEA. We have received hundreds of dollars worth of pennies this year. This fundraiser directly benefits our horses and ponies at VTEA and allows us to purchase much needed items for them.

VTEA Wish List

Please take a look at our VTEA Wish List posted in the Parents Viewing Area. If you are able to assist with any of these items, please contact the office.
