Job Title: Instructor
Reports to: Program Manager
Job Summary: To teach or assist with teaching therapeutic riding sessions.
Responsible For:
Conducting sessions as assigned
Prepare session plans and post session reports
Organize session aids and setup
Supervision of horse grooming, warm-up, cool down
Supervise post-session arena cleanup
Supervision and assignment of volunteer tasks
Recording/reporting any accidents/incidents/client concerns
Record ‘At Home’ program records and reports
Participate in Instructor and staff meetings
Major Duties and Responsibilities:
Task: Maintain a high standard of practice in the overall equestrian program
Expectations:
Act as a role model to staff and volunteers by exhibiting a neat and professional appearance, maintaining punctuality, having a good rapport with client, parents, staff & volunteers
Foster a productive and congenial team spirit among instructors, equine staff, and volunteers to maintain a welcoming atmosphere at all times
All activities will be done while observing VTEA and CanTRA Policy & Procedure manuals
Task: Maintain open lines of communication with clients, parents, staff and volunteers
Expectations:
Contact clients/parents by telephone or face-to-face at least once during a riding term
Communicate with parents/clients, and volunteers regarding any changes in sessions/protocol
Address client/parent concerns/questions
Record/report any incidents/accidents to the Program Manager
Attend Instructor and staff meetings
Maintain a good rapport with all staff members
Task: Maintain client files
Expectations:
Client files have an activity sheet where changes to session plans, telephone calls to clients/parents, etc. must be noted
Client notes to be kept current and up-to-date
Client files to be in a locked cabinet/room
Task: Assist in other areas as required from time-to-time
Expectations:
Assist with fundraising events, when required
Assist with organizing “In-House” horse shows
Other related duties that may arise from time-to-time
Qualifications:
CanTRA certification as Instructor or Instructor-in-training
Valid Standard First Aid with CPR – C - AED Certificate, or equivalent
Ability to present a positive, enthusiastic attitude and to present VTEA as a friendly and fun place
Ability to build, maintain and be a part of a team environment
Ability to deal with others in a friendly manner and to develop positive professional relationships
Ability to maintain confidentiality
Physically able to perform the duties of the position
