Our Story

Dedicated to enriching the lives and to developing the full potential of children and adults with varying abilities and to lead them closer to independence through therapeutic horseback riding, therapy, recreation, life skills and farm related activity.

Valley Therapeutic Equestrian Association is a CRA-registered non-profit charitable association that provides medically-approved therapeutic horseback riding and hippotherapy treatments to children and adults of varying abilities. Since 1983, the goal of VTEA has been to enhance the quality of life of our riders by improving their physical, mental, and emotion wellbeing with the help of our gentle and empathetic horses. Our clients find they can interact with their environment in new, powerful, and inspiring ways.

The volunteers who assist our clients find a great deal of satisfaction in seeing the outstanding benefits that therapeutic riding and hippotherapy can bring to all ages.

VTEA has a team of horses who are selected for their suitability for therapeutic work with clients who are not necessarily “horse people.” In an equine therapy session horses are regarded as equal partners in the therapeutic process and are treated with dignity and respect as per the National Association of Equine Facilitated Wellness.

The VTEA Riding Centre is located among rolling fields on 256th Street in Aldergrove just south of the Fraser Highway. Come explore our 27-acre facility that includes an indoor arena, beautiful woods and artfully constructed trails that stimulate the senses in a variety of ways. Lessons are ongoing and we have some of the best instructors and volunteers that therapeutic riding has to offer.

Clients Say It Best

“When I ride, I feel the rhythm and warmth of the horse relaxing my tight, spasm-prone legs. Sitting tall in the correct posture strengthens my core. Stretching my arms and turning improves my flexibility and balance. I am having a physical challenge and it is enjoyable. It is much better than just trying to battle my body doing exercises on my own.”
— Carol Still

“[Kimberly] loves being on the horses and every week after her ride when we ask how her muscles feel, she always says “Used!” However, this is a good thing as so many important muscles are used in riding. Many times Kimberly sings as she rides, practicing her voice lesson pieces and the horses don’t seem to mind. She also enjoys the after ride hug and the pet that she gives the horse.”
— The Blooms

"Wonderful organization doing great things for the community. Valley has an exceptional team of volunteers, staff, and horses. Very welcoming atmosphere."
— Kaiti Elliott Bradley

“This is truly where love meets action. With great people and wonderful horses, beautiful memories are created here everyday.”
— Nguyễn Khánh Lily
“Ryder has been coming to Valley for two years and continues to ride once a week. He is talking in five to seven word sentences and is developing dialogue. I cannot say enough great things about the wonderful therapy Ryder receives at VTEA because they have helped make a positive change in Ryder’s life. I value the friends and enjoyment Ryder experiences while he is at the centre. He feels right at home.”
— Lillian Newhouse

"My son had so much fun at his first session today and I am so impressed and excited. I can already see how these sessions will really help him in so many ways like building confidence - emotionally & physically ... thank you so much! I wish I started him here sooner ❤️🐴"
