Seniors Riding Program

Valley invites seniors to join our Seniors Riding Program. The aim of this program is to help prevent falls, strengthen core muscles, improve general fitness, and encourage social interaction. Each session involves a minimum of half an hour on a horse with tests to measure balance, speed of walking, hamstring length and upper extremity reach, and to gauge improvement throughout the sessions.

The walking motion of the horse helps to mobilize and strengthen core, spine, pelvis and hip mobility, while mounted stretches and exercises are employed to strengthen the trunk, neck, and limbs. Seniors are also taught breathing, relaxation, and balance techniques to cope with anxiety, and stretches that can be used during the day.

This program is open to persons 65 years of age and older.

Cost will vary.

The cost of this program varies slightly depending upon funding from government assistance programs. Please see Funding For Clients for more information.
